Experiencing NYC in a Wheelchair.

Hi guys, last week was a pretty exciting one! I went to New York for the Voge Fashion Runway show during NY Fashion Week which was such a dream come true for me. I also decided to stay a few extra days to enjoy the city and work in other projects about inclusion, empowerment, etc, in the place that never sleeps.
I wanted to share with you my experience, the amazing collaborationss I did, the places I went to, the Fashion Show and accessibility in the city.

I stayed at Wyndham Garden Chinatown Hotel in Soho, it was very nice and pretty accessible! They have lift to the lobby and wheelchair friendly rooms.

Mariana travelled from Brazil to there to meet me so we could film for the new youtube channel is coming soon called: gowomenplay. She is an entrepreneur with a dream of empowering women and also a great friend of mine. We explored some cute coffee shops and talked about the change we want to bring into the world. I can’t wait for you guys to see it! I also had the pleasure to work again with Kyle and Liam (from the Share Your Stroke of Genius project). I filmed for my Youtube channel and we got some pictures around the city and decided on a few new steps, so there is much exciting content coming up and I know you guys are going to love it!

Share Your Stroke of a Genius

I travelled all around New York. I went to Times Square where you feel like everything is possible and  I also visited the Statue of Liberty. It was great; the boat that takes you there has a big space for wheelchairs. It is super accessible and I really recommend it! And you cannot go to NYC without going for a roll in Central Park. I must say a big thank you to Junior for being the guide/photographer and friend on this trip.

I went to Central Station to take photos and ended up having a great unexpected collaboration with W Magazine!! How crazy is that?!  I can’t wait to see the pictures from this one too.

I crossed the bridge to Brooklyn for a collaboration with GV @gv_bkent and met his producer James @atruthmusik for a podcast with them, it was my first experience in a studio and it was a pleasure to meet him and share experiences. This type of experience are very constructive.

Let’s talk accessibility! In general the level of accessibility in New York is similar to London, you have some stations that are accessible but others in between that are not.  One thing that I can’t go without saying is that the signage inside the stations is just not great. You may easily get lost in there which is not acceptable. Street crossing is not perfect, one side is accessible but on the other side has a step which makes it very dangerous as also does London.

About the Fashion Show!! I was modelling for Vinnette Grant, I absolutely loved the dress and all the pieces she designed. This fashion show was a part of an event held by Voge Fashion Runway. Thanks to everyone involved. Special thanks to Mariana and Kyle for their friendship and positive thinking in making great changes in the world, Liam Alexander and Junior for the many amazing photos, and to Gunda Hafner, Rua Luja and Caroline London for the amazing outfits I wore on this trip that kept me comfortable and fashionable.

Now I am moving towards the nexts goals and I hope you are doing the same, nothing can stop you from doing something you love. Work hard and you can accomplish anything! I am putting a vlog on on my youtube channel very soon. Keep tuned. Any questions you might have about accessibility feel free to ask in the comments or on my social media.

International Disability Day Celebration- Adaptive Flight

Hi Guys

This week was the International Disability Day and I decided to fly to celebrate this important date. It was a way to call the attention to

the subject and to prove that we are capable of different and challenging  things.

It was a dream, something I had never done before and I always wished I could do. I strongly believe that when we want a thing so much we give the main idea to the universe and it was what I did, I started to talk with people and say it was something I would like to do, so it happened.

We chose to fly at end of the day where we could see the sunset what was even more magical.  Capão da Canoa my city is a big city now and it was wonderful to see the city from that point of view, with all its buildings and the amazing beach. I wonder how it would be to fly at night time.

The interesting thing about this adventure is I have a friend in wheelchair that also lives here and he was there to see me, he said when we mey at first one day he would do, when i started to get ready he said, I will do it tomorrow, and when I finished my expereince he was ready to have his own. He was really up for it seeing another wheelchair user doing it made him so confident that he went for it. In less  than 10 min his wife and sister in law were at the beach to see him fly. It is why we need more adaptive sport or things to do. Social projects are of an amazing importance in these cases to arrange things for us to try and see what we really can do or what we like to do.

Thanks to Tutyboal, Ademir from Freedom Flight for arranging to me, Tuti and his team looked after me so well. It was one of the best experiences I have had. His IG is @freedom_fly_paramotor

I also must to say thanks to my mum for filming the vlog, to Lawson Filho for the amazing pictures, his IG is @lawsonfilhofoto and Loja Nara Nubia for the outfit of the challenge, her shop is amazing with an enormous variety of clothes, check her out on IG as @lojanaranubia.

The actually flight  was around 15 min, looks like it is longer. Intook my phone with me and we kissed the sky. It will be something for sure I will try again. I hope I could inspire you to try it, if not it something similar but will take you out of your comfort zone. I am sure you can live a more fulfilled life find what make you happier and more complete.

I will make a vlog soon and will leave you guys with this amazing view of Capāo da Canoa also I will add more pictures on my Gallery here on my website.

Much love Sam

Adversity Is There To Overcome – Never Give Up

Samanta Bullock Spoken London Fashion Week.

As someone that is frequently in front of a camera with a beaming smile, most people would assume that I’m happy 24/7. But, let me tell you, my life is far from perfect. No-one’s is. A smile in a picture can hide everything that is actually going on in your life, and how you portray yourself on Instagram doesn’t reflect the day-to-day.

You see, being disabled throws up a plethora of challenges. Chronic pain is a daily occurrence and some days are a lot harder than others. However, just because my life isn’t perfect, it doesn’t mean I don’t pretend like it is. The key to being happy is making the most out of life, regardless of the situation that you’re in.

That’s why despite all of the pain, discomfort and difficulty, I always remain optimistic. The beauty of adversity is that you have a unique opportunity to learn and grow. You’ll evolve as you gain new experience.

When the pain comes

You can obtain an endless supply of happiness from within, you don’t need to rely on external sources and materialistic things.

We’re always in a position to smile and have fun, and there’s always hope that things can get better. Never, ever let difficult situations consume you, because the light at the end of the tunnel may be just around the corner. Living with chronic pain is far from easy, but my mind is in a healthy place which is why I’m content.

Of course, we can only do our best. Bad days are inevitable. But, positivity and optimism are a far better option than choosing self-pity and negativity. So, think about how you deal with tough scenarios…

I tend to value and appreciate everything that I do have, rather than worrying about all the things that I don’t have. I source inspiration from all those that encourage and support me. I distract my mind with an amazing idea, rather than dwelling on the negative. I refuse to let disability and chronic pain define who I am.

deficiency wheelchair model samanta bullock pain chronic disabled When you get stuck in a rut where everything looks bleak, just remember that it could always be worse. Life is a blessing, so I urge you to remain optimistic and do all you can to take pleasure in all the wonderful things that you currently have. Look at the bigger picture and never give up.

Much love
